Corporate responsibility

At Next we see corporate responsibility as a key element of how we conduct our business as we believe it makes good business sense.

Our commitment to ethical trading

Behind the stylish clothes and home products synonymous with the Next name, there is a long standing commitment to ethical trading and welfare issues that's more resolute, enduring and meaningful than any transient fashion trend.

Our commitment to the community

We believe in supporting the communities in which we operate both within the UK and overseas.

One example of an international welfare initiative we have supported is a major reconstruction project in Sri Lanka, where Next operates a garment factory employing more than 2,200 workers.

In response to the devastation unleashed through the region by the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004, Next established a charitable trust to administer funds contributed by the company, its directors, employees, suppliers and associates. The result? A new village providing homes for approximately 800 people.

Our commitment to the environment

Next continues to seek ways to reduce product packaging and increase recycling of cardboard, plastic and other waste streams. We are also working with organisations such as Envirowise and The Carbon Trust to review opportunities for greater energy efficiency in our stores, warehouses and offices.
